Due to homophobia, young people who are questioning their sexuality or gender identity, and gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender youth face disproportionate rates of harassment and mistreatment in their schools and communities.

This FREE workshop will explore best practices in evaluating the risks youth are faced with in educational environments, and will explore effective interventions as well as strategies through which staff may foster resilience and improve service delivery for this underserved population.

JOURNEY TO FREEDOM tells the story of Waitstill Sharp, a Unitarian minister, and his wife Martha, a social worker, who just days prior to the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia left their young children in Wellesley, MA to embark on an uncertain journey as the first commissioners of the Unitarian Service Committee (now the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee or UUSC). At a time when most Americans were either ignorant of or indifferent to the clouds of war gathering over Europe, this unassuming pair of New Englanders plunged into the storm.
