Marriage Equality Resources

Marriage Equality is still listed, but why? We have celebrated a wonderful success in MA, but much work remains to be done nationally on this issue. While the focus of UU Mass Action is MA, we will occasionally post items of interest where there is an opportunity for Massachusetts UUs to help.

Rev. Diane Teichert, Minister First Parish UU of Canton writes about the upcoming fundraiser being held to support RCFM. "Perhaps you are wondering, “What?! The Constitutional Convention last spring settled that matter! Why support RCFM now?” Well, there is still exciting work to be done locally and nationally, and we think RCFM is unique in its ability to do that work. Locally, we need to thank our supporters in the state legislature and support those whose seats will be challenged because of their vote. Nationally, RCFM has a wealth of experience to share with other states (and has already begun doing so) such as how to frame the equal marriage issue so that people of diverse faiths can hear it and how to bring clergy and lay people together around that message. Without funding, this work cannot continue! Please check out the calendar item.

MassEquality

MassEquality is a coalition of local and national organizations defending equal marriage rights for same-sex couples in Massachusetts. We are working to protect the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court's decision on marriage equality and to defeat any discriminatory amendment to the Massachusetts state constitution in the Legislature.

Religious Coalition for the Freedom to Marry

The Religious Coalition for the Freedom to Marry is a group of more than 850 rabbis, ministers, and faith leaders, as well as congregations and faith-based organizations from 26 faith traditions. We support civil marriage rights for same-sex couples and families as a matter of religious freedom and civil rights. We help citizens understand the distinction between civil and religious marriage. We provide religious support and pastoral care for same-sex couples and families as well as educational programs and projects that support the full inclusion of same-sex families into our society.
