You are invited to join women from 1st Parish Church of Groton on an exciting Women’s Trip to Nicaragua this October, 18-26, 2008. We’ll stay in the farming community of Papayal (located just outside of Managua and in the heart of the largest free-trade zones in Nicaragua), where we’ll work side-by-side with local families, helping construct a home and plant a community garden. Thanks to fundraising efforts through Bridges to Community, women from the small rural village of Santa Rosa will travel to join the Papayal group learn about women’s cooperatives and micro-loan opportunities. (Santa Rosa is the Nicaraguan village 1st Parish visits regularly & has helped support educationally these past 4 years.)
This cross-cultural exchange within Nicaragua and for North Americans is a great opportunity for discussions with women working in sweat shops, women health leaders, and women working in fair trade companies. If you are interested, please contact 1st Parish’s Social Action Team member Mary Jennings, mjennings@sprise.com or 978-448-5381. Reservations through Bridges to Community must be completed by August 1.
