Get Out the Vote

We often think of voter registration as 'out there'. But voter registration begins at home. And home can include our congregations. Getting out the vote in our own congregations is an easy way to support our 5th principle - "The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large." Here's what we need to do in Massachusetts.

Voter's must be registered by October 15. More details at the Secretary of State's office. You can download a National Registration Form here. Forms must be postmarked by Oct 15 and mailed to your local town clerk office. Some town clerk's offices may be open late on Tuesday night for in person registrations.

Have available Absentee Ballot request forms during coffee hour. A copy is attached at the bottom of this page. For rules on absentee ballots click here.

What else can you do?

1. Organize rides for members of the church who can not drive to the polls.
2. Provide babysitting for young families so they can get out to vote.
3. Remind others who use the church to get out to vote. Make absentee ballots available for your tenatns and other groups using the church buildings.
4. Put up flyers around the church in support of voting. Need some, email Nancy at nancy.banks1@verizon.net.

Send me an email and let me know what you are doing.
