Advocates aginst the Governor's proposed Casino proposal have joined to create Casino Free Massachusetts , a non-partisan, statewide coalition made up of a diverse group of citizens from all walks of life, from across the political spectrum and from all corners of the state who oppose legalizing casinos in Massachusetts. Election Integrity
There are two bills in the legislature which seeks to maintain election integrity in Massachachusetts. H670 writes into law our current system of voter marked paper ballots and H671 requires regular audits of 5% of the voting machines used in elections. Health Care Reform
Health Care Reform implementation is underway. Affordable Coverage Today (ACT!), the broad coalition that fought for the law, continues to work for the best possible implementation. to make sure the law is implemented fully and provides good, affordable coverage. You can monitor the critical issues at stake as implementation continues, as well as this year's proposed legislation 'An Act Strengthening Health Reform' which will assure access and affordability within the new law by going to Health Care For All's blog.
Health
The Alliance for a Healthy Tomorrow is working to pass 'An Act for a Healthy Massachusetts:Safer Alternatives to Toxic Chemicals'. The bill targets 10 of the worst toxic chemicals found in common household products such as dry cleaning, pesticides, solvents, building materials, foam cushions, and electronics. It would mandate a careful process to evaluate alternatives to these chemicals and replace them with safer alternatives where feasible. It would also assist businesses in the transition and increase the competitiveness of Massachusetts businesses internationally.

The Massachusetts Immigration and Refugee Coalition is working on issues related to comprehensive immigration reform at the federal level, reconsideration of the Education Opportunity Act (formerly the In-State Tuition bill), Election Day voting registration and other legislative and administrative requests. The Paid Sick Days act, filed by Rep. Khan and Sen. Jehlen and Tolman, will guarantee employees 7 days of paid sick leave annually. The days can be used for one's own health or to care for a child, spouse, parent or spouse's parent. Routine medical appointments will be covered as well, and there is a provision covering families to address the psychological, physical or legal effects of domestic violence.
