When/Where: Wednesday July 9th, 10am at JFK Building, 11am at State House Steps
What: We will gather at the JFK Federal Building just outside City Hall Plaza and then march to the State House steps (map of route) for a rally that begins at 11am, calling on the Governor and our legislators to take action in support of the Dignity Not Deportations Bill.
Why: Our faith traditions teach us to love our neighbors and care for those who are vulnerable and in need. In the Jewish and Christian scriptures, Abraham and Sarah built their home in a tent that was open on all sides - a canopy that was a sign of welcome and hospitality for all people. The Essex County Community Organization (ECCO), along with others, has launched the interfaith Canopies of Compassion Campaign in support of immigrant rights to call on our elected officials to meet this moment of cruel injustice towards immigrants with compassion and care. We have constructed canopies printed with values we all hold dear - home, safety, refuge, humanity, dignity - and will demonstrate with them in locations throughout the Commonwealth.
