Dearest Supporters,
I write to you today with an urgent request. In these uncertain times, we recently learned that two major grants we depend on will not be renewed, due to reasons outside of our organization’s control. This will leave us with an unexpected $90k shortfall for FY26.
As a result of this shortfall we are launching ‘Dreaming Beyond Crisis: An Emergency Capital Campaign.’
Though we may be at financial loss, at this moment UU Mass Action is doing some of the most powerful, effective work in our organization’s history. With a staff of only four, we’ve been able to show up not only in our priority campaign areas, but also in response to the rapid upheaval of democracy. As staff member Claire Karl says, we are “part of achieving a true democracy, not only stopping a fascist dictatorship, but also transforming and healing the systems...that have brought us to this place.”
Since August alone, we have:
Initiated the “Stop the Billionaire Coup” march, mobilizing over 1,000 participants alongside 100+ co-sponsoring organizations
Co-coordinated the “Hands Off Boston” rally turning out tens of thousands of participants
Doubled our engagement with over 700 registered participants since August for our social justice actions and events (compared to ~350 the same timeframe last year)
Co-Convened a historic gathering of grassroots immigration justice groups in January, leading to the LUCE ICE Defense Hotline and an emerging Immigration Justice People’s Platform
Organized award winning campaigns with Mass Power Forward, which our staff co-anchor. This group is being given the Progressive Leadership Award by Progressive MA in recognition of our impactful work including passing several major climate bills
Supported and continue to support our frontline partners in this time when many are in crisis response mode. UU Mass Action provides vital administrative and other support for these partners in both responding to this moment and building visionary campaigns
This is a taste of what resistance looks like, and this is what your support makes possible.
We are doing the work, and we are doing the work well. UUs looking to live out our values and find guidance and community in these chaotic and dangerous times have been turning towards us for support and strategic direction, and we have responded to this call.
We are aiming to raise $100,000 by the end of our fiscal year, June 30, in order to secure the funds we need to continue organizing at this capacity nexzt year. We further are aiming to establish a $20,000 endowment to strengthen our long-term stability.
We appreciate any donation size that brings us closer to this goal so we can continue to do the powerful work we are known for. We are also especially looking for *new major donors* who can give $5000 or more in new gifts. If you are an existing donor who can increase your gift, we hope you will consider a major new gift to support this emergency campaign. Or if you know of UUs who care about social justice with the ability to become a major donor, we hope you will invite them to reach out to us (click here to share this email).
If you’ve marched with us, taken action with us, if you have just emailed us a question and received an informative response, or been moved by our mission in any way —now is the time to give. We are ever so grateful for all the support, and we look forward to continuing to fight for a just future that we know is possible.
We believe that there is abundance and enough to support our organizing in the UU congregations across MA to live out our values.
